TEFA Frequently Asked Questions
TEFA stands for Texas Education Freedom Accounts, a Texas program that helps eligible families pay for approved education expenses. Families who receive TEFA funding can use it for qualifying educational services and expenses through participating schools and providers.
Yes. Eligible families may be able to use TEFA funds toward qualifying Pre-K education at a participating provider.
MBS Kids participates as a TEFA Pre-K provider, allowing eligible families who receive TEFA funding to apply approved funds toward qualifying Pre-K tuition and educational expenses.
TEFA eligibility is determined according to current State of Texas program requirements. Because eligibility rules may be updated, families should review the official TEFA guidelines when applying.
MBS Kids can help families understand how TEFA works with enrollment at our Pre-K program, but final eligibility and funding decisions are made by the TEFA program.
TEFA funds may be used for approved educational expenses, which can include qualifying tuition, required educational fees, curriculum, instructional materials, assessments and other eligible education-related costs.
Which expenses qualify is determined by current TEFA program rules.
TEFA is intended for approved educational expenses rather than general child care or noneducational supervision.
Services such as separate daycare, before-school care or after-school care may not qualify as TEFA educational expenses. Families are responsible for charges that are not eligible for TEFA funding.
It depends. The amount of TEFA funding a family receives and the expenses that qualify are determined by the program’s current rules.
If approved TEFA funds do not cover the full cost of tuition or other services at MBS Kids, the family is responsible for the remaining balance.
TEFA funds must be used according to the program’s requirements and with eligible participating schools, providers or vendors when required.
MBS Kids participates in the TEFA program for Pre-K, giving eligible families another option when choosing an early education program for their child.
Families first apply for TEFA through the state’s official program. If their child receives an award, they can follow the TEFA process for selecting a participating provider and using approved funds for eligible education expenses.
Families interested in attending MBS Kids can contact our team for help understanding the MBS Kids enrollment process and how TEFA may be applied to qualifying Pre-K expenses.
The ability to combine TEFA with other assistance depends on the requirements of each program and the expenses being paid.
Families should review the current rules for TEFA and any other assistance program they receive. The MBS Kids team can also help families understand which payment and assistance options we accept.
Families should visit the official Texas Education Freedom Accounts website for the most current information about eligibility, applications, funding and approved expenses.
If you’re considering Pre-K at MBS Kids, our team can also answer questions about enrollment and using approved TEFA funds at our academy.
