What is a Child Care Subsidy?

The Child Care Services (CCS) program, often referred to by Houston parents as NCI (Neighborhood Centers Inc.), provides primary financial assistance to eligible families. This subsidy helps cover the cost of child care so parents can focus on work or school, knowing their little ones are thriving in a high-quality learning environment.

As a Texas Rising Star 4-Star Provider, MBS Kids meets the highest state standards for curriculum, safety, and teacher-child interactions. This means your subsidy goes further, giving your child access to a “Gold Standard” education.

Is My Family Eligible?

While eligibility is determined by Workforce Solutions Gulf Coast, subsidy is generally available to families who:

Reside in the Texas Gulf Coast area (including Harris and Waller Counties).
Are working, attending school, or participating in a job training program for at least 25 hours per week for single parents, or a combined total of 50 hours per week for two-parent households.
Meet income guidelines based on family size.
Have a child under the age of 13 (or up to 19 with documented disabilities).

Pro Tip: Even if you aren’t sure if you qualify, we encourage you to apply! Workforce Solutions often has priority groups for certain industries or family situations.

How to Apply for CCS

Navigating the application process can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. Here is your simple 3-step guide:

Check the Waitlist: Visit the Workforce Solutions Financial Assistance page to see the current status of the waitlist and eligibility requirements.
Submit Your Documentation: You will typically need your child’s birth certificate, proof of residency, and recent pay stubs or school registration.
Select MBS Kids Early Learning Academy: Once approved, notify your caseworker that you have chosen MBS Kids as your provider. We will help finalize the enrollment paperwork!
